Thalapathy Vijay is eagerly preparing for the release of his film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69. As the buzz around the film’s title release gathers pace, it looks like the makers may opt for a nostalgic option for Vijay’s alleged final film.
According to a report in Valai Pechu, the makers of Thalapathy 69 are considering naming the upcoming film as Naalaiya Theerpu. For those who are unaware, the same title was used for Vijay’s first venture in 1992.
This early 1990s film introduced Vijay as a lead actor after previously appearing as a child actor. Directed by Vijay’s father and director SA Chandrasekhar, the film was a cautionary action film directed by Vijay’s mother and playback singer Shoba Chandrasekhar.
This Tamil language film tells the story of a businessman who has several extramarital affairs which leads him to molest a woman. However, after the woman becomes pregnant, the businessman’s son grows up in pain and moves to avenge the same.
Along with Vijay, the film also stars newcomer Keerthan in the lead role, who later played roles in South films and transitioned to Tamil soap operas. The film also featured Ishwari Rao, Srividya, Radha Ravi, Sarath Babu and a host of other actors in lead roles.
The film flopped badly in those days and was received negatively by critics who even ridiculed Vijay’s appearance.
Now, it seems like the makers of Thalapathy 69 may use the same title for their upcoming venture, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The film, directed by H Vinoth, is said to be based on a military background and is likely to release its first look and title on the occasion of Republic Day on January 26, 2025.
The upcoming film, which is believed to be the actor’s last cinematic venture, stars Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. Additionally, the film also stars Mamita Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and others in supporting roles.
