Taapsee Pannu’s character Rani Saxena in the 2021 romantic thriller film Haseen Dillruba made a place in the hearts of her fans. Looking back, it seems like no one else could have played the role of a double-faced housewife like her. But did you know that she was not the first choice for the film?
In an interview with The Indian Express, the actress revealed that although she was interested in the script, screenwriter Kanika Dhillon had approached and almost finalised another actor to play the lead role in the film. The Chashme Badoor actress revealed that she had heard from Kanika that she had such a story for the Netflix thriller.
In fact, Taapsee Pannu had also shown her interest in the film. But before she could read the script, she left for the shooting of the film. When she returned, she found out that Kanika had already narrated the story of the film to another actor, and they were going to finalise the film soon.
But since destiny wanted her to lead the film, she got a call from the screenwriter, who asked her to come to his office for the script narration without asking her any further questions. Eventually, the script was narrated to the dimwitted actress, and when it was over, she laughed and said, “It was my destiny, I told you already.” It was an instant yes from her side for Haseen Dillruba.
The Mission Mangal actress further added that she was not the ideal actor for the role except for the grey shades of the character. “Because any grey character that doesn’t fit on paper, I am the right person for it,” Pannu said. She further added that since there was nothing suitable for her character in the film, she was even more excited to be a part of the role.
For those who don’t know, Pannu is gearing up for the release of the film’s sequel ‘Phir Aai Haseen Dilruba’. Directed by Jayapradha Desai, the film also stars Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal and is set to premiere on Netflix on August 9, 2024.
