This week, Charli XCX made her third appearance as a host on Saturday Night Live, also doubling as the musical guest. In a pre-show promo, he shared a playful moment with cast member Marcelo Hernandez, debating whether his outfit was “brat”, a term he popularized after his sixth studio album, Brat .

This weekend, during his SNL opener, Charlie explained the meaning of “brat,” using Martha Stewart’s recent feud with a reporter as an example. Stewart mistakenly claimed that a journalist covering his legal case had died, to which the journalist responded, “I’m alive, b****.” Charlie described this as the ultimate “brat” behaviour, which set the tone for his quirky and bold style of comedy.
Charlize Bratt Summer has become a huge part of pop culture thanks to her latest album. She explained in a TikTok video that “Brat” is about being honest, messy, and embracing chaos, which fits her style perfectly.
This is not the first time SNL has used Charlie’s “kid” persona. Earlier this season, Bowen Yang humorously impersonated her in a sketch on The Talk Show with Charli XCX. Charlie later praised Yang’s portrayal, calling it “good” and praising the wig used for the impression.
While this will be Charli’s first time hosting, she has previously appeared as a musical guest on SNL in 2014 and 2022.
