Karthik Subarj has been an enthusiastic fan of Rajinikanth for so many years. While the two have already collaborated on a project together, deep reverence for the senior actor continues to be maintained. Recently, the director addressed whether he will soon show his recent release, retro, jailer star anytime.
Speaking with backwoods in an interview, Karthik Subbej mentioned that when Rajinikanth saw the trailer and teaser of retro, he is yet to watch the film. The filmmaker said how he is ready to show romantic action for the famous icon.
In his words, “I will definitely showcase the retro to superstar Rajinikanth, when that jailer is freed from shooting. I already showed him the teaser and trailer. He said it was fantastic; God’s blessings.”
For Untold, Karthik Subaraj has already mentioned in one of his previous interviews that his film retro was not initially for anyone other than Rajinikanth. However, the first draft was more of an action zone, which later turned into a romantic tenure once Surya was heard.
Karthik had said, “I wrote this script keeping Thalaor in mind. Initially, it was more in the action zone in line with Thalary’s image. After telling Suriya sir, it was turned into a love story.
Retro came back to retro, the film was released in theaters on May 1, 2025 and Nani starrer collided with a hit-the third case.
However, Suriya starrer has set a strong leg at the box office and has so far scored a good run. 20.50 crores within two days.
Apart from Suriya, the film includes Pooja Hegde, Jujo George, Jairam, Nasar, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Swasika, Suzith Shankar and other lead roles.
Retro talks about a man named Retro innings who is an orphan raised by a gangster. It follows his journey to fight against family betrayal between life-drew options, while he tries to start a new life and win a true love, Rukmani back.
