Dhurandhar: The Revenge shows no signs of slowing down as the film has already earned US$2.50 million (Rs 23 crore) in pre-sales at the United States box office. At the same time, before release, it is much ahead of Kalki 2898 AD, which was priced at a little more than 2 million US dollars. There is no historical data available for Baahubali 2, but it is safe to assume that Dhurandhar: The Revenge will be much ahead of that. This makes the film the fastest pre-seller for an Indian film in the United States.
The film increased its sales by more than US$250K yesterday, maintaining a daily growth trend of US$200K or more since sales began. Crossing US$4 million would be a breeze as it just needs to maintain the current momentum for the next six days. However, that won’t be all as the final stretch will see a surge in sales, meaning the film could potentially reach around US$5 million by the night before the premiere. This will make it better than RRR and Baahubali: The Conclusion, which probably grossed a little over US$4 million the night before their premiere.
Breaking down the sales, the Ranveer Singh starrer has earned around US$900K for its Wednesday premiere. It will cost $2 million on the way to its premiere, possibly even more, depending on how much exposure it can get. Most major venues are suitable for prime time shows and need more shows. This happens not just for the premiere, but throughout the weekend, causing a massive uproar. Sunday sales are already close to US$250K, which is extraordinary, as most big movies were below that even on the last night before release. Saturday is the second biggest day with pre-sales around US$500K.
This also makes the extended opening weekend of $10 million pretty much a lock, as something would need to go very wrong for it to miss out. Notably, only three Bollywood films have crossed the US$10 million mark during their entire run in the United States, and Dhurandhar: The Revenge will reach this mark only in its opening weekend.
In neighboring Canada, just two days after the country’s top series began sales, the film has already become Indian cinema’s biggest preseller, surpassing Animal. As is standard, both countries are reported as a single market, and combined pre-sales in both are close to USD 3 million. The North American weekend (without converting the Canadian gross to USD) could potentially exceed US$15 million in the traditional norm of reporting.
