Vacations are something we all look forward to for months and sometimes even years, in terms of the particular destination. When the time finally comes, we just look forward to a comfortable flight, imagining ourselves sitting in spacious, comfortable seats and enjoying delicious food. It’s a great idea, right? But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Instead of the spacious seat we dreamed of, we find ourselves cramped and with no room to even stretch our legs. In-flight food that sounded delicious when described on the menu often proves to be disappointing. This is what happened to passengers on a recent Delta Airlines flight.

The plane had to make an emergency landing in New York after passengers reportedly received “spoiled” food. According to the New York Post, the A330 aircraft carrying 277 passengers departed from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport just before 11pm on Tuesday. However, it was diverted to John F. Kennedy International Airport after it was discovered that some of the in-flight food in the main cabin was spoiled.
Flightradar24 data shows the Delta plane was over Saint Pierre and Miquelon, a French archipelago south of Newfoundland, Canada, when the decision was made to divert the plane. The crew decided to land the plane after consulting with medical experts. The airline has not revealed how the contamination was discovered, nor has it provided information on how many of the 277 passengers ate the food or if anyone showed symptoms of food poisoning.

While this incident sounds horrifying, unfortunately this is not the only case when the quality of food has spoiled the travel experience of air travelers. Just last month in June, an Air India passenger complained of finding a metal blade in his in-flight meal from Bengaluru to San Francisco. In his social media post, Mathers explained that he was enjoying roasted sweet potatoes and fig chaat when he felt a piece of metal in his mouth. When he inspected it, he found out that it was a metal blade.
Air India’s food can cut like a knife. Its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat had a metal piece hidden inside that looked like a blade. I only realised it after chewing the food for a few seconds. Thankfully, no harm was done. Of course, the blame for this lies entirely with Air India… pic.twitter.com/NNBN3ux28S

Earlier this year, in March, there was another incident where passengers on a Vistara flight expressed disappointment over the quality of in-flight meal service and compared it to ‘hostel food’.
Very good! @airvistara Your main course this evening at UK820 is a throwback to old memories! Like a meal that was served by indifferent cooks in a poorly run hostel mess! Bland taste, texture that suggests the chicken should have ideally been cooked hours ago… pic.twitter.com/Gdgadwoq0C
