Deepika Padukone opens up on regrets, growth and choosing purposeful films
Reflecting on her 18-year journey in cinema, Deepika Padukone admits that she sometimes regrets her past film choices. The actor said authenticity is no longer the only compromise for her as she moves forward with a clear sense of purpose.

Deepika Padukone looks back at her 18-year career with honesty and introspection. Though he has headlined some of the country’s biggest blockbusters, from his debut in ‘Om Shanti Om’ to the pan-India hit ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, the actor says not every project has been a success, and some choices come with regrets.
In a recent conversation, she admitted that she “sometimes looks back on some of her choices with regret,” offering a rare glimpse into her thought process while furthering her development as an artist.
in an interview with harper’s bazaar indiaDeepika spoke openly about the direction her decisions take today. “The only non-negotiable thing is authenticity. Anything I don’t believe to be true doesn’t bite. Sometimes people offer a lot of money and think it’s enough, but it’s not. And the inverse is also true – some things may not be big commercially, but I believe in the people or the message, and I’ll stand by it,” she said.
She admitted that this clarity is something she arrived at over time, not something he always had“Was I always this clear? Probably not, But now I’ve reached that clarity, Do I sometimes look back and think, ‘What was I thinking?’ Of course, That’s part of learning, Maybe 10 years from now, I’ll question some of the choices made today, But right now, they feel honest,” Deepika said,
Looking ahead, the star has two major films in the pipeline. She will next be seen in ‘King’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Siddharth Anand. The film also stars Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee and will release in April 2026.
Deepika will next join director Atlee for his upcoming project with Allu Arjun, currently titled ‘AA22xA6’ – which is scheduled to release in 2027.
