David Muir honored at Time 100 Gala, remembered the moment with Pope Francis late
David Muir was honored in 2025 time 100 gala for his impressive journalism. He reflected on his early career, praised the masters such as the Diana Sawyer, and would lead ABC’s Vatican coverage.

David Muir and David Muir, the anchor and managing editor of World News tonight, was celebrated in Jazz at Jazz at Jazz at New York City on 24 April along with the co-editor of 20/20.
Muir was recently nominated among the 100 most influential people of Time Magazine, including Demi Moore, Jalan Hurts, Adrian Body and Gisle Pelicot and other notable honors.
While on the red carpet, Muir recalled a groundbreaking 2015 Town Hall with the 2015 Town Hall with Pope Francis held at Spanish. The town hall was unprecedented, and Muir described the experience as deeply humble. Considering his first meeting with the late Pontif, who passed the day before Gala, Muir said, “He was extraordinaryly kind, moving and human.” Muir will now lead ABC News’ special coverage from Vatican, report on Pope’s funeral and related programs.
Talking to WABC7 reporter Zole Gargillo, Muir reflected on his adolescence. At the age of 13, he had a desire to find beyond his surroundings. He credited employees at his local TV station – who welcomed his enthusiasm – to nurture that ambition. “I am grateful to him,” he said, accepting the beginning of his journey in broadcasting journalism.
When asked about the most influential people in his life by Good Morning America, Muir named his parents, early guru at his local station and Daini Sawyer of ABC. “Diane has an inspiration. He is the real icon,” he said, expressing gratitude for his guidance and appearance in his career.

Sawyer paid 100 tribute to Muir, praised his frontline reporting – from the struggle areas to climate crises – and his unwavering dedication to truth. “Now he is an anchor chosen to interview by the Pope and the Presidents. He shows calm, respectable and fearless,” he wrote, highlighting his change to a respected global journalist from a set teenager.
