Another day, Guinness World Records reported another amazing record. This time, we are talking about the heaviest eggplant (aubergine), and it belongs to Dave Bennett. In a video shared by the record-keeper on Instagram, Dave Bennett is seen displaying the vegetable. He then walks towards a table and places it carefully. A few seconds later, the eggplant is placed on a weight machine. It weighed – 3.778 kilograms (8 pounds 5.3 ounces). This is more than 10 times the size of the common eggplant available in the market. Dave, who lives in Iowa, USA, planted it in April, the record keeper said in a statement. “Planted in early April by Dave Bennett (USA), the record-setting Globe eggplant (aka American eggplant) is the heaviest eggplant in the world.”
Sharing the video, Guinness World Records wrote, “Heaviest eggplant (Solanum melongena) grown by Dave Bennett weighing 3.778 kg (8 lb 5.3 oz).”

The Guinness Book of World Records said the eggplant’s circumference was “71.12 cm (2 ft 3.9 in) and its height from stem to base was 35.56 cm (1 ft 1.16 in).”
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship also shared a detailed note about this on Facebook. It reads, “It’s not every day a world record is set in Iowa! Dave Bennett of Davis County set a new record with an eggplant weighing 8.33 pounds. Our Iowa Weights and Measures Bureau was called in to verify the record, with inspector Evan Hankins making sure everything was measured correctly. We handle verification for all three giant pumpkin competitions at the State Fair, Bloomfield and Anamosa each year, and we are happy to add this impressive eggplant to our list of world records.”

Evan Hankins told Guinness World Records, “My initial reaction was [excitement] For the other eggplant Dave was growing. It was a pretty good size too. But then Dave corrected me and said, ‘This is it!’ For a moment I thought we had a 10-pound eggplant!”
