In a survey of counterpoint research commissioned by OnePlus, 88% of the respondents feel that a compact smartphone will be to buy if it offers the same performance as a flagship. The survey was conducted between more than 2,000 young emerging professionals and early jawans in India.

Number 57% of the respondents are among those who said that they are very likely to do so and 31% which were somewhat possible. The percentage of only one digit was either neutral or not interested in such a device.

The study also shows that 68% agree that there are not enough options available on the market that meet these requirements. In addition, more than half of them preferred display and battery life when choosing compact phones and 73% consider it very important that the phone is turned on with one hand.

Among all the participants, 11% want a device with a display size that is below 6 inches and 29% that prefers it to exceed 6.5 inches. Meanwhile, 60% will like it somewhere. Finally, the consumer seemed to like Apple, Samsung and OnePlus to purchase his next compact smartphone.

Separating the fact that the survey was commissioned by OnePlus and also inspiration to do so, results are on obstacles with existing market trends. If one thing is that customers felt that in the last decade, they have unevenly agreed or so they want big phones. Apple learned it hard when he began selling iPhone Mini in 2020 based on the opinion of a vocal minority, to take an unprecedented decision to close it only after two years after poor sales. Even Samsung, which sells one of some flagship-grade compact phones, regularly sees very large and more expensive models in the same series.

The study that shows the lack of options on the market is the result of lack of demand, not the reason for this. If the two biggest smartphone manufacturers can not forbid you to buy compact flagship smartphones, what is the opportunity for small brands? Sony and Asas tried for a while and we all saw how it went.

So forgive us to take this report with salt grains. As long as the customers start investing their money, where they have a mouth and actually starts buying a flagship compact phone, what they wish so that they will be labeled as a vocal minority.
