While co-stars Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson play a romantic couple in the upcoming space race film Fly Me to the Moon, the former couldn’t help but gush over the real-life chemistry between Johansson and her husband Colin Jost. Jost, who makes a brief appearance in the film, was a regular on SNL in the past, where he met his future wife.

Colin Jost will be seen in Fly Me to the Moon

“I was like, ‘Oh, you guys are lovely,'” Tatum told Johansson in an interview with People ahead of the film’s release. The comic is featured in the film in a small role as Senator Cook. Fly Me to the Moon, as the title suggests, centers around a moon landing mission by the States in the ’60s. Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, a NASA flight director who oversees the project, while Scarlett Johansson plays Kelly Jones, a PR professional hired to manage the agency’s public image.

As the day of the mission approaches, concerns of possible failure grow, especially because of the competitive threat of the Soviet Union. Determined not to let the mission fail, Kelly is assigned a major challenge: planning a fake moon landing. Meanwhile, Kelly and Cole, who have a romantic history, must keep the operation a secret from Cole.

How did Colin Jost get the role?

The famous Marvel alum recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where she explained how Jost got the chance to guest star in this 1960s-set romantic comedy. “Greg Berlanti was our director. (He’s) a huge fan of Colin’s,” Johansson explained, describing how they both have a passion for comedy writing. When Berlanti approached Johansson about Jost’s cameo, the actress revealed what she had to say. “I said, ‘Yeah, I’m sure if you ask him, I won’t ask him,'” she told Fallon.

Johansson joked that Jost’s cameo was also somewhat contractual, teasing that it was in their prenuptial agreement. She spoke fondly of their relationship, noting how Jost often helps her practice her acting roles even though they haven’t acted together other than his contributions to her SNL sketches. The couple, who began dating in 2017 and married in 2020, have a son named Cosmo.

Fly Me to the Moon will hit theaters July 12.
