As the US doubles down on Operation Epic Fury in Iran, fears of potential cyber attacks on US websites have increased. Cloudflare co-founder and CEO Matthew Prince has said that the cloud infrastructure firm is prepared to face any attacks from the Iranian regime.

On Twitter, Prince wrote on Twitter addressing concerns over potential cyber threats from Iran. He assured Cloudflare users that any attacks will not disrupt services. “No matter what happens from Iran, @Cloudflare is well aware of their technologies, not concerned, and fully prepared to protect our customers,” he wrote.

Cloudflare is one of the largest service providers online. It bridges the distance between the visitor and the website host. In 2024, Cloudflare said 20 percent of the web will run through its network.

Iran started cyber attacks

The prince’s comments come as reports indicate Iran is preparing a cyber attack. Iranian hacker groups have also been reported to cause disruption at gas stations in Jordan. Hackers are also reportedly targeting American and Israeli military providers.

According to Reuters, Tehran is sending a call-to-action to pro-Iranian cyber individuals who have previously carried out cyber attacks such as distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS) and hack-and-leak operations.

CrowdStrike’s Adam Meyers told Reuters that the company was already seeing, “activity consistent with Iranian-aligned threat actors and hacktivist groups who were conducting reconnaissance and launching DDoS attacks.”

Cybersecurity firm Anomaly reported that Iranian state-backed groups were already carrying out ‘wiper’ attacks on Israeli targets by erasing data before the recent attacks.

Iran’s religious app BadeSaba hacked

BadeSaba, a religious calendar-app, was hacked, along with several news websites, during the joint attack on Iran by the US and Israel. The attack was intended to encourage the Iranian armed forces to give up their weapons with messages such as “It is time for reckoning”.

BadeSaba has over 5 million downloads, and is said to be used by supporters of the Iranian regime.
