Caste discrimination our society: Phule director defends the film among the film
Director Anant Mahadevan spoke about the objections raised against the portrayal of caste-discrimination in his film ‘Phule’. The filmmaker said that India’s fight against discrimination is over.

Director Anant Mahadevan, whose latest film ‘Phule’ has disturbed a part of the audience, talked about the controversy. In an interview recently, the director outlined the existence of issues that throw light on his film – caste and gender discrimination.
The ‘Phule’ starring Pratik Gandhi and Patilekha reflects the couple’s fight against caste-based discrimination to demand equal rights for women for women. Some Brahmin groups have objected to the content of the film, which has postponed its release. while talking Pune TimesMahadevan replied that if he feels that the issue could be a solution.
“I don’t think so. Not even in the future, because we are an immature society. It comes through either some unnecessary prejudices or provocation or whatever it is, but we do not progress. In fact, we have revived in many ways, despite many things that Jyotba and Savitribai said that women’s education and freedom,” said.
Anant Mahadevan has maintained since the beginning of the line that his film is based on the life and work of a visionary couple, whose education today works as a very foundation of the Indian education system.
The director slammed those people who are not present in the country today, saying that caste-discrimination is not present in the country today. He continued, “But, caste discrimination and gender discrimination continue to plague our society. These issues are not going to solve so easily. Therefore, the revolution continues.”
He said, “We are still so self-centered and materialistic. Technological progress does not cover your social regression. What about Vivek? What about social relevance?”
The Central Board of Film Certification suggested amendment to the film, and the producers accepted all the changes, stating that none of them obstructed the story stories. However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap wrote a long note criticizing the board and Brahmin groups to feel angry with the content of the film. In fact, his dissatisfaction, which he tried to express a police complaint against him with an alleged derogatory racist comment for a social media user.
When the director of ‘Phule’ was asked to comment on the support received from both audience and colleagues like Anurag Kashyap, he also accepted the same. Mahadevan said, “Yes, there is a lot of support from political parties, even the film should be shown in its entirety. I think it is encouraging and positive.”
However, without naming Kashyap, he said, “There will always be disgruntled voices, but it has been unanimously accepted by this unanimously.”
‘Phule’ was originally scheduled to release Jyotiba Phule on 11 April on the birth anniversary. However, the delay in CBFC certificate caused the new release date, and now, the film will hit the screen on 25 April.
