As a beauty lover and someone whose job it is to write about the craziest things people do to get clear skin – from applying their own saliva to period blood, we’ve seen it all. But when we tell you that this is probably the craziest thing we’ve seen people do to get clear skin, we’re in for a treat. really, really What does it mean.

‘Poop Face Mask’

Brazilian model and beauty influencer Débora Peixoto has gone viral after creating a smelly face mask using her own feces and well water.

Yes, you read that right.

In the video, she pulls out a small container from her fridge that contains what appears to be some fecal matter. She then takes some water to soften the feces and applies it to her face with her bare hands, even sticking a peg up her nose for obvious reasons.

In the caption of the video, Peixoto claims that the mixture works wonders in slowing down the effects of aging on the skin, and that ever since she started using the mask, her husband jokingly refuses to come near her, but well, her skin doesn’t flake anymore.

The video has been viewed over 3 lakh times and some people in the comments section are very happy with Peixoto’s face mask. Some are calling the video a way to get attention, while some aestheticians are concerned about her health.

Is there any science behind this?

If you look closely at the video, Peixoto has given a link to a scientific study that inspired him to try this bizarre face mask. So, a quick Google image reverse search later, we found the article that Peixoto mentioned in his video.

The research talks about feces and aging, but doesn’t mention its general application. Instead, it’s talking about fecal microbiota transplantation or FMT, where a healthy person donates their feces to someone in need.

FMT, which itself requires further scientific study and research, is believed to be a treatment for diseases such as asthma, multiple sclerosis and diabetes, as well as gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and constipation.

Stinky Facts: There is a company in America that will give you around Rs 1.2 crore every year for healthy stool. Yes, read more about it here.

There are no other scientific studies that prove that human feces is good for your skin in any way.

Dr Jisha Pillai, a dermatologist at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, also says that there is no scientific data available regarding applying ointment on the face for glowing skin.

“These bizarre applications are not recommended by doctors and are not backed by science. There is no scientific data that the use of feces has any benefits in old age. These practices have no credibility and are just publicity stunts to attract attention,” she adds.

‘It has a lot of viruses’

Dr. Pillai further said that applying feces on the face has many side effects and can cause many types of infections. He also said that there should be some ‘restrictions’ on social media and such posts should not be promoted as they have no credibility and mislead people.

She further adds, “This poop app is crazy and made just to go viral on social media.”

Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist and dermato-surgeon at The Aesthetic Clinics agrees and adds, ‘Be cautious of such viral trending videos’ as there are several health risks associated with them.

“Feces contain a multitude of bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause fatal infections and systemic disease,” she says.

Dr. Pillai says that if the stool is not cleaned properly, it can accidentally enter the body through the mouth.
