Many Telugu language films were released during the Sankranti festival starting from January 10, which hit the box office hard. One of the most popular competitions is S. Shankar’s Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, and Bobby Kolli’s Daku Maharaj, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Bobby Deol, Dulquer Salmaan and others.
While the former film is already in theatres, the latter will welcome audiences on January 12. Might we dare add that Daku Maharaj’s progress is looking very strong?
Meanwhile, the game changer is doing well in its home state, but its performance across India, especially in Andhra states, is below normal. Telangana was bad for the film, while Andhra Pradesh was mediocre, nowhere near enough to make an impact.
Word-of-mouth for Game Changer is mixed, which is proving unfavorable for the film, which was made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Produced by Dil Raju under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations, the political action thriller also stars Anjali, Samuthirakani, SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram, Naveen Chandra, Vennela Kishore, Vijaya Krishna, Naresh and Brahmanandam. The film was shot in several overseas locations including Japan, China, Malaysia, Cambodia and New Zealand.
On the other hand, what has been said about Daku Maharaj is mostly positive. Unlike Game Changer, the budget of this film is controlled. If Daku Maharaj closes or surpasses the revenue gap with Game Changer – which is a highly likely scenario given the latter’s mixed reception – then it will be considered a successful venture.
Apart from these two films, there is a third major Sankranthi release titled Sankranti Vasthoonam starring Venkatesh, Meenakshi Choudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh, which is set to release on January 14, 2025. The promotional material for this film has been well received. Creating significant anticipation.
So, what do our readers think? Will Daku Maharaj rise to the occasion with Game Changer? And what is the future of Sankranti Vasthoonam?
