Anand Pandit led Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, which is a banner behind many popular films in the last 10 years of Kul Dhammal, Kabza, PM Narendra Modi and many others, which have been a producer, presenter and distributor for Indian films from various industries in the last 10 years of their career. The producers recently appeared for an interview with ANI, where they talked about the current status of the Hindi film industry and why it is struggling on many fronts.
Films have turned into projects
To start, Anand Pandit says, “I think there are two to three reasons. Earlier films were made, and now more projects have been made. Earlier, we used to focus more on the creative people.” To explain his point, the producer recalled the era of writers like Salim Javed and said, “You must have seen a time when the movies were sold in the name of Salim Javed. Today, in the last 5 years, in the last 5 years, you may not even know that a big writer’s film was sold. So, I think it is very important that we will perform in the film.”
According to him, in today’s time filmmakers see films as projects. “Instead of thinking that if I am making a film, I will get OTT streaming rights, satellite rights, music rights, foreign rights. Therefore, the calculation is based on it and finally, the box office is counted. The box office is counted. There was a time in the 80s and 90s when there was no collateral business.” Pandit says.
He continues, “The box office was the only business. Therefore, keeping in mind the audience, whether they will buy tickets and come to the cinema hall or not, the films were written and made in mind, unfortunately, it is not happening because the mentality of the OTT is different, the mentality of the satellite is different, different is different, different in abroad.”
More inspiration from originality
The second big issue that Anand Pandit currently sees in Bollywood is lacking in the script and inspiration from others. The manufacturer says, “We are inspired by South, we are inspired by Korea, we are inspired by this language. Therefore, the originality that was earlier is not the originality even today.”
He also talked about the lack of trust in a script by the manufacturers. “The director has a vision, the manufacturer has a vision, he has a belief about the project, about the film. I think we should not go from there. But sometimes, the director is not so confident, or the manufacturer is not so confident, and your hero is strong, and then, not according to the project, and then, not, but not, but according to their character, this project is ruined.” Anand Pandit said.
