Nicole Kidman’s latest film, Babigirl, is going towards streaming after an impressive dramatic run. Written, directed and built by Halina Region will be available on Max starting from 25 April.
Premier at the 81st Venice Film Festival in August 2024, the film quickly became one of the most talkeding offerings of the year. Kidman’s performance earned her to earn the iconic best actress, which the Region collected on her behalf as the actress had to return home after her mother’s sudden demise. The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before opening the cinemas worldwide on Christmas day.
The story follows the character of Kidman, a high -power CEO, risking both her personal and professional life when she begins a relationship with the intern under her mentorship. The latter character is played by Harris Dicinson.
The film also stars Sophie Wilde and Antonio Bundaras in Piwal Rolls.
With a production budget of USD 20 million, Babigarl proved to be a commercial success, earning an estimated USD 63.8 million. Of this figure, the film collected US $ 28 million from the domestic market and $ 35 million internationally, more than the industry expectations for an intimate psychological thriller.
Critics appreciated the film for their bold storytelling, entertaining performance, and the ability to cure a stressful suspected drama of the region. Kidman specifically appreciated a woman’s depiction of strength, desire and its consequences, many people called it their daring role. His snub made a lot of debate with the Oscar nomination for the 97th Academy Awards. At a recently concluded ceremony, Mickey Madison honored Shaun Baker’s Anora for his title role.
Babigirl was recognized by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2024, which highlights its position among the best films of the year. Kidman also received the honor of the best actress from the camp, who praised her heavy bag for the role.
The availability of the film on Max will allow the audience who missed-or we should say, left it-its big screen run, given its stimulating nature.
