James Cameron’s latest film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is performing well at the box office. The third installment of the much-loved Avatar franchise crossed the US$450 million mark on Tuesday (seventh day).
Estimates suggest that the film collected US$34.3 million overseas on Tuesday, taking the international total to US$331.1 million. Its domestic queue has already grossed US$119 million, with US$16.5 million on its first Tuesday in the US. The film recorded the second-best opening Tuesday in its home territory this year behind Superman (US$17.2 million).
The worldwide gross collection of Avatar: Fire and Ash reached US$450.1 million in 7 days of its theatrical run. It is expected that due to the festive holidays in the coming days, there will be a huge increase in the film’s earnings. Based on current trends, Avatar: Fire and Ash should touch US$500 million on Christmas Day and US$600 million on Boxing Day.
If the film maintains the current pace, it will enter the USD 1 billion club by the first weekend of the New Year. Although the film is performing well, it is still far behind its previous film Avatar: The Way of Water at the box office. This probably happened because the third installment received a mixed response among audiences and critics, which affected its potential. Furthermore, the anticipation for The Way of Water was on another level as it was coming after a decade. Nevertheless, Avatar 3 is witnessing a successful theatrical run.
