This May weekend was brought to a triple clash with a box office, with Nani’s hit 3, Ajay Devgan’s Red 2, and Suriya’s retro on the shore. All three films from three different languages strengthened by portraying an impressive day-a number. But now, in just two days, the scoreboard is showing a difference: Raid 2 is a pioneer with Rs 37 crore, followed by Rs 34.5 crore Rs 34.5 crore, while retro trails with a little Rs 32 crore. While the opening day was a neck-and-neck race, Raid 2 and Hit 3 have started pulling forward.
Suriya’s retro, sometimes guided by experimental Karthik Subberaj, presents a specific leveled story. The film revolves around an orphan that grows under the shadow of a gangster. Later they have been designed for the life of improvement through love, only to push into a destiny situation. Revenge, romance, family drama and morality subjects, mixed retro style elements in a stylistic, gritty recreational.
Suria brings raw intensity in its role, providing both powerful action and emotionally grounded moments. Pooja with Hegde adds weight to her chemistry story, especially in more dramatic parts. Despite these positivity, retro is not easily hovering. Hit 3, director Telugu Mystery-Action film, director Telugu, is breathing her neck. Nani owns the screen as Arjun Sarkar, which brings intensity and purpose to the character. While the background score of Mickey J. Mayor includes punch, where it is needed, KGF has broadcast Srinidhi Shetty’s confident Telugu debut as Sridula.
Ajay Devgan’s raid 2, meanwhile, brings back the intensity of the original with a face between senior star Nayak and Ritesh Deshmukh. While Vani Kapoor left his mark despite a limited screen time, both Saurabh Shukla and Amit Sial added comic punch. Although the songs were flat, crisp dialogue and thrilling story is impressing the audience, which is why collections are crossing retro figures.
As the weekend occurs, the collection difference may increase, but the retro still holds its own with strong content and star power. The coming days will cover whether it can close the distance.
