Former Brazilian President Zaar Bolsono, who is accused of supporting a coup, on Sunday told a demonstration at Rio de Janeiro that he was banned “Democracy” on demanding re -election.
Several thousand supporters from far-flung firebrands rolled out Rio’s famous Kopakbana beach to show support for the 2019-2022 leader of Brazil, accusing him of trying to uproot his leftist successor Luiz Insio Lula Dr. Silva.
The 69 -year -old, is trying to place himself as a leading contender in the next year, despite holding an elected post by 2030.
“I want to tell all those who do not like me in Brasilia (Brazil’s capital): Elections without Bolsoro deny democracy in Brazil,” he said.
Bolsono expected to follow US President Donald Trump, despite facing several legal allegations.
AFP said, “They are trying to throw him into jail, in cowardly fashion, so it can be chosen, but they will not succeed.”
A former military officer like Bolsoro, 64 -year -old Jose de Suja Vitorino said he came to the rally because he wanted to “leave a better Brazil for my children.”
Bolsono called “Million” supporters to gather on Sunday, but an AFP photographer said the rally was smaller than a similar incident at the same place a year ago.
The protest was officially invited to demand amnesty for hundreds of convicts in Bascilia on 8 January 2023, when Bolsonro Backers brought a storm in the President’s Mahal, Congress and Supreme Court.
The rioters demanded that the military eviction Lula, who had defeated Bolsono, his archery in the October 2022 elections and was sworn in a week ago.
The January 2021 storm of the Capital Building in Washington was provoked by Trump supporters, most of which have been forgiven the US President.
Bolsonaro was in the United States during the Brasilia riots, but prosecutors believe that he was part of the conspiracy of a coup approved by the former army captain.
On 25 March, the Supreme Court of Brazil will consider whether there is enough evidence to try him.
If convicted, he risk the duration of more than 40 years of prison.
Like Trump, Bolsono claimed to be a victim of politically motivated judicial hounding. Both men also survived their life efforts on the campaign mark.
On the platform of Kopakbana, a poster now showed a distinguished image of Trump of a disruptive Trump with a fist picked after a bullet during a rally in Philadelphia last year.
– ‘send a message’ –
“Trump of the Tropics” was dubbed, Bolsono claimed to be a victim of political harassment with the aim of excluding him from looking for a second term.
He has been disqualified to hold a public office by 2030 for unnatural claims of fraud in Brazil’s electronic voting system, but he hopes that he will be overturned by the Congress.
Independent political analyst Andre Roja told AFP that the real purpose of the Sunday rally was to “allow Bolsoro to send a message to his rivals to the right … and confirm their intention to become a candidate in 2026.”
“For now, I am a candidate,” Bolsoro told reporters in Brasilia this week.
Lula’s camp has concerns, meanwhile, which includes the health and persistent inflation concern of the 79 -year -old President, which has reduced their popularity.
