Bodies of 28 migrants found in a large scale in Libya

A disastrous discovery has been made in Libya, where the bodies of 28 sub-Sahara migrants have been detected in a collective tomb in the southeastern district of Kufra. The discovery became possible after a raid of human trafficking, where 76 sub-Sahara migrants were rescued from their prisoners. The migrants were subjected to inhuman treatment, including torture and detention at the hands of a cruel gang.

According to the Attorney General’s office, the raid was executed late on Saturday, a gang was targeted which deprived their freedom migrants and subjected them to cruel treatment. The bodies of the deceased migrants were buried near the detention site, and three persons, including a Libya and two foreigners, have been arrested in connection with atrocities.

In Libya, highlighting the strict position faced by the migrants, the disturbing images of the migrants are shared on social media with marks on their faces, limbs and backs. The country has struggled to recover from the chaos after the 2011 NATO -backed rebellion, which topped the dictator Momar Kadafi for a long time. The ongoing instability has created a power vacuum, allowing smugglers and human smugglers to take advantage of weak migrants.

The strategic place of Libya is just 300 km from Italy, making it an important departure point for migrants seeking better life in Europe. However, this journey is full of crisis, as migrants cross their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea. Treatment of migrants and refugees in Libya has long been a matter of criticism, in which the rights groups have accused the authorities of forced recovery, slavery and other forms of abuse.

In a similar incident last month, two persons were arrested for torturing and detaining 263 irregular migrants at El Wahat in East Libya. The prosecution alleged that the migrants were taken captive to give ransom from their families, with demands ranging from $ 10,000 to $ 17,000. In addition, in March last year, a mass grave with bodies of at least 65 migrants was discovered in the South -West Libya, highlighting the dangerous scale of migrant deaths in the country.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has condemned insufficient action taken to address the migrant crisis, stating that “the cost of insufficient action is clear in the increasing human deaths and the harassed situations have found themselves. Are”.
