Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta faced hostility during the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest on September 4, which led to her being pushed out and her car being attacked by protesters. She spoke to India Today about the incident.
Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta was surrounded by a section of protesters during the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest at Shyambazar Square in Kolkata. As soon as it was announced that the actress has joined the protest, a scuffle broke out. A section started shouting ‘go back’ slogans. The actress was pushed and forced to leave. The protesters also started attacking her car.
Talking about the untoward incident, Rituparna Sengupta told India Today, “I am shocked and speechless. What happened can only be termed as hooliganism. I had gone there to express my anguish like others. I even addressed the media, but suddenly a large group appeared from nowhere and started pushing me. They created chaos and panic. They started pushing me and I fell down. They were drunk. There was a stampede like situation.”
