Barack Obama has been talking about it all summer, just like the rest of the world. He has praised Charli XCX, whose album Brat he said is excellent.
The 63-year-old former president added Charli XCX’s song 365 to his summer playlist during a September 5 episode of the I Had It podcast. He gushed over the music selection and claimed it was based on real emotions he felt while listening to her works. He added that Brat is a great album.
Obama understood that everyone would question whether he actually listens to the various music genres compiled in his annual summer playlist. He assured all listeners that he was quite honest and that he really liked the songs. His exact words of praise were: “People sometimes question whether I really listen to all this music. As I’ve testified before, I do. Charli XCX knows what she’s doing.”
He further added that his daughters Sasha and Malia recommend new music along with his young staff, who are trendsetters.
Apart from the Charli XCX song, the playlist also included Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em, Shaboozy’s A Bar Song, Billie Eilish’s Chihiro, Tems’ Love Me JJ, Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me, and Bob Dylan’s Silvio, The Rolling Stones’ I Can’t Get No Satisfaction and other tracks. Obama has said that the said playlist was one of the different kinds of music he has been listening to.
Brat Summer, Defined by Charli XCX’s Album Brat, emerged as a unique cultural phenomenon that took the world by storm. For those who don’t know, that means she’s effortlessly cool and genuine, a little erratic, a 365 party girl who takes life’s ups and downs like a champion.
Everyone from Kamala Harris to Jennifer Lopez, like countless other celebrities, have gotten in on the trend. When Charli XCX tweeted, “Kamala is a brat,” the trend took off even more and everyone on the internet began posting memes, videos, and more to celebrate Brat Summer. The singer has reiterated that the comment towards Harris was meant as a light-hearted compliment.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama has also shared his 2024 summer reading list on Instagram.
