Why do we get digestive problems in monsoon?

Monsoon has a huge impact on our digestive system. This is because the humidity in this season promotes the rapid growth of bacteria and other infectious agents in our body. In fact, according to nutritionist Rupali Dutta, our digestive system slows down during monsoon and this can lead to common digestive problems like bloating, gas and indigestion. Taking care of your digestive system during monsoon is also important because 70 per cent of our immune system is located in the digestive system and a healthy digestive system ensures protection from infections.

How does moong water help in digestion in monsoon?

Moong dal is rich in pectin which can help regulate bowel movements. According to nutritionist Panchal, moong water helps ignite the digestive fire and helps detox the body if you are suffering from constipation, gas or bloating in monsoon. Moreover, the expert suggests consuming this water first thing in the morning or mid-morning to kick-start your body’s digestive system.

How to take care of your diet during monsoon?

You can drink moong water to keep your digestive system healthy and active, but some dietary tips can also help you stay healthy during the rainy season.

1. Eat small meals

Eat small meals instead of eating a full meal. This will keep you energetic throughout the day and you will also get the necessary nutrition.

2. Eat whole grains

Whole grains are rich in fibre which helps in releasing energy slowly and steadily. This can keep you energetic throughout the day.

3. Avoid sweetened beverages

Yes, the humidity might make you want to drink a big glass of aerated drink, but try to avoid it. High-sugar sodas increase the blood sugar levels in your body, which can lead to diabetes. Instead, drink fresh lemon and coconut water.

4. Mealtime

The best time to eat is between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm. A late breakfast or dinner can disrupt your digestion process and affect your overall health.

5. Exercise

Regular exercise can help improve and regulate your digestive system. Exercise for 15-20 minutes daily for your health.
