‘Are you scared you’ll be deported’: Two Indian-origin men clash on social media over H-1B. One of them is the Texas GOP chair

Texas GOP Chairman Abraham George clashed with Indian-American Advocacy Council founder Siddharth on social media over H-1B and asked Siddharth if he was afraid he would be deported. The online controversy comes at a time when Indian-American groups are concerned about rising hatred against Indians in the US. This debate started when Abraham George called for abolishing H-1B and said that this visa program is full of fraud. “The H-1B visa is rife with fraud and displacing American workers. It must stop. We must make it a legislative priority for the Texas GOP to rid our state of H-1B and put Texans first. #AmericaFirst,” George posted. Abraham George was born in India and came to America at the age of 16. Thousands of Indians come to America on H-1B visas, although people from other countries also come to America on this visa program. The existing India-hatred and attacks on the H-1B visa program are running concurrently in MAGA circles. Texas has already taken several steps against the abuse of H-1B visas. The administration has banned H-1B hiring at state agencies and state universities. Three H-1B firms are also under investigation. The administration was alerted by Texas journalist and whistleblower Sarah Gonzales, who conducted her own investigation into alleged H-1B abuses. He met with employers and found there were no offices. Although many IT staffing companies hire H-1Bs for large tech companies and these staffing companies may not have their own office, everything related to H-1B is now under scrutiny in Texas. Reacting to Abraham George’s anti-H-1B message, Indian-American community leader Siddharth said that George remained silent on the xenophobic hate crisis that targeted Indian-Americans in his own state. Enumerating the achievements of Indian-Americans in Texas, Siddhartha said, instead of standing up against hatred targeting a community that has invested billions in the Texas economy, the GOP president was supporting the same mob that was bullying him. “Are you afraid you’ll be deported?” Abraham George replied. “Are you kidding me? This is your reaction to taking a responsible statement on rampant racism against Indians?” Siddharth hit back A major controversy erupted after an old video of Indian-origin engineer Madhu Raju dancing at the World War II memorial went viral. Social media users accused him of H-1B violations and demanded his deportation.
