The Apple iPhone 17e is on sale starting today, and we managed to get it in store for review!
It starts at €700/£600/INR 64,900 and 256GB – last year’s 16e had 128GB of base storage and was priced the same at launch (except in India). So double the storage at the same price – great!
The Boaz contents are the same – you get a SIM tool and a USB-C cable, but it’s a nice braided cable.
So what’s new in the iPhone 17e? For one, MagSafe. Ask anyone what they would like to add to the cheapest iPhone, and they will unanimously answer – A Promotion, 120Hz display. And MagSafe will probably follow that. Probably not.
Anyway, the iPhone 17e adds MagSafe, which opens the phone up to a larger ecosystem of accessories. This also brings it in step with the rest of the iPhone lineup.
Unlike most Ultra phones, it has MagSafe
The iPhone 17e also brings a chip upgrade in the form of the A19, which is a binned variant with a 4-core GPU. The phone also brings the latest C1X modem, which will improve connectivity.
What still excels on the iPhone 17e is the handling. Maybe it’s because we’ve become used to our phones being larger these days, but the iPhone 17e feels refreshing in the hand – beautiful and comfortable. At just under 170 grams, it’s lightweight too.
On the front, the display features a second-generation ceramic shield over the screen. Everything else is almost the same. You have a 26mm f/1.6 main camera with a smaller 48MP 1/2.55-inch sensor on the back. On the front, there is a capable 12MP selfie camera with autofocus.
The battery is also the same 4,005mAh unit, but wireless charging has been doubled to 15W.
But maybe none of that matters. Not all new iPhone 17e owners will come straight from the 16e. Perhaps many of them will come from outside forums. One thing’s for sure – most of them won’t care about changes to specific specifications, and probably most of them will be much happier with the iPhone 17e.
