Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has supported Sonam Wangchuk as the activist continues her hunger strike into the 18th day. His post focused on the government’s silence amid growing concerns over Wangchuk’s health.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has extended his support to activist and teacher Sonam Wangchuk amid her ongoing hunger strike. He shared a post on social media and criticized the government’s silence, calling it “deafening”. Praising Wangchuk’s courage, Kashyap said only a person with deep empathy and commitment to truth and justice can carry out such a protest.
Sharing a post on his Instagram story, the 52-year-old actor-director wrote, “There was a time when hunger strikes meant something. People don’t just go on hunger strikes. It’s really disturbing when the system becomes so indifferent to people’s lives. Only a person who is empathetic and believes in truth and justice has the courage to do so.”

Adding, “I don’t have the courage to do what Sonam Wangchuk is doing. But the silence from the powers that be is so deafening that it is proof of their crime and their murderous intent. I stand with Sonam Wangchuk’s brave heart.”
In a separate post, he condemned the administration in Hindi and wrote, “Even outsiders are not so deep, and even the blind are not so blind. Even animals and demons do not have such hearts of stone. They are even worse man-eaters. I am feeling ashamed to remain silent.” (Even the deaf are not so deaf, and even the blind are not so blind. Even animals and demons do not have so stone hearts. They are worse than them – human hunters. It has become a shame to remain silent) (sic).”

Anurag Kashyap has joined the league of Zeenat Aman, Abhay Deol, Omi Vaidya, Rubina Dilaik and other stars who have expressed their support for Wangchuk.
Wangchuk’s hunger strike
The 59-year-old activist has now completed his 17-day fast and has emerged as the face of the protest movement. A petition filed in the Delhi High Court has requested immediate medical intervention for Wangchuk, asking authorities to force-feed him to end his 17-day hunger strike. The workers are sitting on an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar. The protest, organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak scam.
Visuals of a weak-looking Wangchuk lying on a white mattress and surrounded by doctors have gone viral in the past few days. CJP founder Abhijeet Dubke has been constantly present with him.
