Tulsidas’ epic poem Ramcharitmanas has 27 verses, 4608 chaupais, 1074 couplets, 207 sorathas and 86 stanzas. It draws its primary inspiration from Sage Valmiki’s Ramayana which narrates the life and exploits of Lord Rama. Some of the most famous chaupais of Ramcharitmanas were seen inscribed on a piece of banner that looked like a letter from an ancient time. But what is its meaning? One of them read, ‘Mangal Bhavan Amangal Haari, Dravahu Sudasharatha Aachar Bihari’ which means ‘O Lord Rama, you are the abode of good and auspiciousness for all causes and the destroyer of all evils. O beloved of Dasharatha (Sri Rama) have mercy on me, who plays in the courtyard (as a child in Dasharatha’s courtyard)”.
One of them read, ‘Hari Anant Hari Katha Ananta, Kahahi Sunahi Bahubidhi Sab Santa.’ This chaupaayi means, “Sri Hari is infinite and his stories are also infinite. These stories are heard and narrated by different saints in different ways.” Another chaupaayi we came across there was ‘Hoihi Soi Jo Ram Rachi Rakha, Ko Kari Tark Badhavai Sakha.’
It emphasises that everything happens according to the divine plan of Lord Rama and questions the need for excessive logic or reasoning. It suggests that it is futile to expand branches of unnecessary reasoning when one can adopt a more humble and accepting attitude towards the divine order.
Over the years, these verses from Ramcharitmanas have become the motto of many people’s lives and the Ambani family is one of the staunchest followers of Hinduism and they never fail to embrace and promote their roots. Not to mention the saints and babas who came to Anant and Radhika’s wedding to bless them.
