Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati concert transformed Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium into a vibrant hub of excitement with 35,000 fans visiting every day. However, the celebrations were overshadowed by the local athletes, who were disappointed to find the stadium littered with garbage after the event, and expressed their disappointment at the poor condition of the track.
Former Youth Asian gold medalist Beant Singh took to Instagram to express his disappointment over the condition of the stadium after Diljit Dosanjh’s concert. He highlighted that the space meant for athletes to train was being used for partying, resulting in broken equipment and an untidy atmosphere.
He also shared his disappointment over the state of sports in India, lamenting the condition of the stadium after the concert. He said, “Yeh aukaat hai bharat mein sports ki, sportsperson ki aur stadium ki” (This is the status of sports, sportspersons and stadiums in India).
He explained that while young athletes train in these facilities, they are often closed for a few days for events, allowing people to drink and party. This resulted in training equipment being broken and thrown away, showing a disturbing disregard for the players’ needs.

When vehicles were passing on the track, liquor bottles and rotten food were scattered on the track. These images led to deep reflection on the conditions faced by athletes, questioning the appeal of pursuing sport in such an environment.
In response to athletes’ concerns about the condition of the stadium, officials swung into action to prepare it for the upcoming Indian Super League matches, reports Sportstar.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) contacted the concert organisers, and insisted that the stadium be returned to the same condition as it was delivered. The entire cleanup will be completed by October 29, with around 70,000 attendees over the two days.
On October 28, the cleaning team tackled the mess using a stiff-bristle broom, which unfortunately damaged the track’s sensitive synthetic surface. Additionally, cycle rickshaws carrying heavy goods pass through the athletic track, further increasing wear and tear.
According to the portal, one athlete expressed concern about the impact of heavy load on the track, noting that it creates indentations that can lead to an uneven surface.
Given that the track was repaved in 2021, there are concerns about hosting competitions if it remains damaged. The athlete expressed hope that the cleanup efforts would leave no permanent marks on the surface.
