Food safety officials, in coordination with the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Hyderabad City Police, have seized 60,050 kg of adulterated coconut powder worth Rs 92.47 lakh during a surprise inspection at Begum Market in Telangana. The raid on December 6, 2024, targeted Aakash Trading Company, where food business operators (FBOs) were allegedly repacking adulterated coconut powder under different brand names. Officials found that imported desiccated coconut powder was being mixed with loose, desiccated coconut powder, in violation of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006. Action will be initiated against the offenders as per the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.

On December 3, a state-level task force in Telangana seized Salty And during inspection of M/s Sunny Foods in Kallakal village of Medak district, snacks worth Rs 2.13 lakh were found. The establishment had operated without a valid FSSAI license and had violated labeling guidelines by using misleading visuals and manipulated product names. Officials revealed the use of expired food items like tomato masala and Maggi masala in the preparation of snacks like chips, namkeen and colored fennel. All seized products were discarded and authorities initiated further action under food safety rules.

Earlier, an inspection of the canteen of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad had revealed several violations. The canteen was found to be operating without an FSSAI license, with medical fitness and FoSTaC training certificates missing, and with inadequate temperature records. Sanitation issues included cockroach infestation, rodent activity along with rat feces, open dustbins and improperly stored food items.
