Adarsh Gaurav on stardom: I never became an actor to become a film star
Adarsh Gaurav spoke to India Today about his thoughts on stardom and how he hopes to reach a wider audience. He considered his purpose to be to use his influence to support unconventional stories that lacked experimental scripts and production support.
In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Adarsh Gaurav talks about critical acclaim, box office numbers and why stardom was never his goal when he decided to become an actor.
Adarsh’s career so far has been defined by critical appreciation, even if commercial success is not always matched by praise. Addressing whether that disparity bothers him or motivates him to chase the numbers, the actor offered a candid view. Speaking exclusively to India Today, Adarsh said, “No, it doesn’t really bother me at all. I never became an actor to become a movie star. I became an actor because I really enjoyed playing and understanding the psychology of different human beings, and then putting myself in that situation and experiencing it to the fullest. I never thought I would be where I am today. I was very much prepared to be in it for a long time. I had achieved success like The White Tiger and Didn’t expect my life to change completely.”
He further added, “But having said that, I feel like most of the films I have led have been largely made on OTT, except for Superboys of Malegaon And where are we lost. after Superboys of MalegaonI realized that it is important for me to do a film that reaches more people than those who already know me. There is a certain section of the audience that is following my work through OTT releases, but there is also a very large section, the public, who doesn’t know who I am. I felt like this movie gave me the perfect opportunity to reach out to them and say, ‘Hey, I’m here. I am this. This is what I have done. And this is what I can do.”
Adarsh believes that his latest release can expand his reach and change the direction of his career. “I hope this film will be seen by a much wider audience than most of my previous films. And whatever comes of it, I hope it’s really good, because I want to use that privilege and power to support scripts that are lying around without producers being confident about them. Maybe they’re very experimental, maybe there’s something unconventional in them, but they’re the kind of movies I want to do.
