As Amazon’s MGM Studios officially begins the search for the next James Bond, a familiar name has taken itself out of the running. Actor and DJ Idris Elba has addressed the latest speculation about the iconic spy franchise, saying that producers are now looking for a young actor to play the role of 007.

The actor, whose name has repeatedly cropped up in fan discussions over the years, clarified that he is not being considered for the role. talking to people magazine at the Los Angeles premiere of lord of the universeElba dismissed the latest reports linking him to Bond.

He said, “My name is not being thrown around. They are getting younger. And I wish them the best of luck at the world. I can’t wait – it’s going to be amazing.”

Elba further stated that he was never actually a contender for the role and described the long-running speculation as fan-driven nonsense rather than anything official.

“To be honest, I was never in the running. I wasn’t even in the running in the first place,” he said.

This is not the first time the actor has spoken about rumors related to the franchise. In 2023, Elba reflected on the cultural significance attached to playing the role of Bond and acknowledged why the role continues to generate buzz among actors associated with it.

“We’re all actors, and we understand that that role is one of those coveted types. It’s like being named Sexiest Man Alive. But being asked to be James Bond was like, ‘Okay, you’ve reached the pinnacle’,” he had said.
