Aamir Khan confirms 3 Idiots sequel, says script is set after 10 years
Aamir Khan has confirmed that Rajkumar Hirani is working on 3 Idiots 2, which will take place after 10 years. The sequel brings back Aamir’s popular Phunsukh Wangdu and promises to revive the humor of the original film.

Speaking about the project, Aamir revealed that he has heard the story and described it as “amazing”, noting that the script is still being refined. According to Aamir, the sequel will be based on the lives of Rancho, Farhan and Raju approximately 10 years after the events of the original film.

Aamir also expressed his excitement about returning to the role of Phunsukh Wangdu. Calling it a “beautiful story” conceived by Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi, he said he was looking forward to revisiting the character.
Released in 2009, 3 idiots Aamir starred alongside R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film won the hearts of audiences because of India’s education system, friendship and the idea of choosing passion over societal expectations.
Its performances, memorable dialogues and music have helped it remain widely popular over the years, with speculations of a sequel coming up again and again.
Other projects in the pipeline
Aamir also shared that his planned reunion with Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke has been put on hold due to script-related issues.
Separately, reports suggest that Aamir is in talks to portray BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover in a biopic, with Shraddha Kapoor reportedly being considered for the female lead and Rahul Modi as the director. An official announcement on the project is still awaited.
