A man in Indonesia has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend to death after an argument over a riddle called “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?”, police say. Independent, The incident took place in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province on July 24, when the suspect, identified as DR, invited Kadir Markus to drink alcohol. After a few rounds of alcohol, DR asked Mr. Markus to answer a riddle for him.

As the conversation turned into a heated argument, Mr. Marcus tried to distance himself from the debate, refusing to move. Mr. Marcus decided to go back to his house, but DR grabbed a dagger and followed him on his bike and then attacked him multiple times on foot. The weapon used in the crime was a badik, which is the traditional dagger of the coastal tribes of South Sulawesi such as the Bugis and Makassarese.
Despite the heroic efforts of bystanders who rushed Mr Marcus to hospital, the victim tragically passed away.
Police said both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Tongkuno Police Chief Iptu Abdul Hasan confirmed the incident and said the suspect has been taken into custody. Police also seized the weapon used in the crime and a pair of trousers worn by the suspect. He has been charged with murder and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted.
Mr Marcus was cremated on July 26, while investigations into the brutal murder are still ongoing.
