The strength of the Apple Watch and the kindness of a stranger led YouTuber Jared Brick to a wonderful reunion. Nearly two years after he lost his watch while swimming in the British Virgin Islands, he got it back thanks to Apple’s Find My feature. Brick shared the whole story in a video, including the watch’s journey and the surprising way he got it back.

According to a report by Apple Insider, in the summer of 2022, Brick and his family went on a trip to the British Virgin Islands to celebrate his son’s 11th birthday. They planned to do some scuba diving, so Brick bought Apple Watches for himself and his son to stay in touch. The watches were helpful for checking the time and keeping track of their dives, some of which were over 100 feet deep. The Apple Watch is designed to work up to 50 meters (164 feet) underwater, and it worked perfectly during their dives.

On the last day of his trip, Brick was swimming at a beautiful spot called the Baths on Virgin Gorda. He was jumping off rocks in the shallow water while a friend was recording his swim. However, he later realized that his Apple Watch was no longer on his wrist.

Brick didn’t immediately realize this because he was lost in the beauty of the place. When he realized the watch was missing, he used another Apple device to report it lost using the Find My feature. The app showed a map indicating where the watch was lost, but Brick, who was no longer in the area, assumed the watch was gone forever.

Eighteen months later, in December 2023, Brick received an unexpected call from Jonathan, a local resident of Virgin Gorda. Jonathan had found the watch on the same beach. After charging it, a lost watch message popped up with Brick’s phone number. Jonathan called Brick and sent him a picture of the watch. He then mailed the watch back to Brick, who lives in Felton, California, not far from Apple’s headquarters.

In April 2024, nearly 22 months after losing it, the Apple Watch was finally returned to Brick. It survived being underwater and a 3,600-mile journey back to California. In his video, Brick showed the moment he opened the envelope and discovered the watch was working properly.

Brick thanked Jonathan for finding and returning the watch and praised Apple for creating sustainable technology. “Thank you so much to Jonathan in the Caribbean for finding it, contacting me, sending it back to me … and to Apple for creating amazing technology that works,” Brick said.
