But being on a dating platform just to prove yourself that you are still desirable? It can be problematic – or therefore the relationship specialist says.

Do you know a person who constantly brags about the number of matches found on dating apps? Or someone who always swipe left and right but rarely talks to any of his matches? Now there is a word for this normal behavior – it is called ego scrolling.

Katie Dissanayake, CEO and Founder of Dating App afterIn an interview with USA Today Ego-scrolling was described as the task of swipe through dating apps in search of easy verification rather than real connections or relationships.

“You are not looking for a date – or often a real conversation – you are just looking for the fact that you are still desirable,” he said.

Although it may seem harmless, indulging in ego-scrolling can negatively affect others, causing them to doubt themselves and contribute to dating the fatigue of the app. While a person can scroll for verification, a person is actually demanding connections, there is a possibility of losing faith in this process after experiencing ghosts and misunderstandings from ego-scallers.

Delhi-based relationship experts, Ruchi Ruhh, scrolls the tendency that harasses ego.

“Ego scrolling is a disturbing trend in modern dating as it completely changes the purpose of platforms to make a relationship in equipment for superficial self-prolific. While I think it is completely fine for the desire of affidavit and verification as a human being. Today India,

“This behavior highlights a cultural tendency to prioritize external verification on self-acceptance and real intimacy. These shallow interactions may feel dissatisfied both and others,” she says.

But why do people scroll ego?

In addition to demanding verification, the fear of rejection and loneliness is also one of the common reasons why the youth ended the ego scrolling.

How the ego scrolling works that it gives the illusion of seeing without the risk of really known or rejected. Real emotional investment (deliberately or unknowingly) feels safe avoiding ego-scroll.

“The ego scrolling is often working with insecurity, low self -esteem, or an familiar attachment style. People with avoidance attachment can engage to seek verification without emotional risks of proximity in this behavior, as it allows them to feel desirable while keeping a distance,” Ruhu says.

She explains: The quick satisfaction of matches promotes a quick ego (similar to social media likes) that temporarily calms the deep emotional needs for connections. The fear of loneliness, previous rejection, pressure to look attractive or real intimacy can further increase this trend, as the ego scrolling provides an easy way to feel confirmation without emotional investment.

In some cases, ego-scrolling may be really helpful. For example, if you have gone through divorce or have finished a long -term relationship, it can serve as a reminder that there are still other options as you start moving forward.

Its effect on others

Experts agree that ego can cause great harm to those at the end of scrolling.

“When people match on dating sites, they invest emotional energy and expect in a possible relationship. But in the case of an ego scroller, they feel ignored or ghosts once after meeting the needs of a scrawler.

Finally, while the ego-scrolling can give quick boost of verification, it is important to remember that real people are on the other side of the swipes with the real emotions. Proceeding about your intentions helps to maintain a healthy, more respectable dating atmosphere. And if you are considering breaking this cycle of ego-scrolling, you can first sit with your thoughts and know your value before trying to find it from others.
