Maranamass Review: Basil Joseph’s film is a treasure of absurd comedy
Haranamas Movie Review: Director Shivprasad’s ‘Maranamas’ is a dark comedy starring Basil Joseph, Rajesh Madhavan, Siju Sunny and Suresh Krishna. The film has a lot of laughter, but it also matters as progress.
Dark comedy is a difficult style that can result in both ways. The film can be strange due to madness, or it can be flat on her face. Late, a lot of dark comedy is coming from the south. Director Shivprasad’s ‘Maranamas’ is an extra for dark comedy style with Basil Joseph at its core. Basil, who is on a golden run with several hits for his credit, picks up Maranamas, elevates it and proves why he is looking out.
A serial killer, known as a banana killer due to his signature move, has killed three elderly people in a village in Kerala. The police are naturally interested to doubt Luke PP (Basil Joseph) as one, etiquette with their off-beat character. From burning a school staff room to leaking the discovery history of a politician, he is a ‘destructive’ force in the village. Luke loves Jessie (Anishma Anikumar). However, Jessie is unaffected by him and is broken with him.
Meanwhile, the bus conductor is Aruvi (Siju Sunny), who is suffering from grief over the disappearance of his father and bus driver Jiku (Suresh Krishna), who is excited about his late marriage. The film gets all these characters inside the night bus. It ends in a crazy position because the equation also has a dead body.
Director Shivprasad’s ‘Maranamas’ is a treasure of absurd moments. You name it, in the film. From a pre-wedding shoot in a cemetery to a grandfather’s passion with erotic novels, the film is full of moments that gives you enough scope for many laughter-out moments. While the film succeeds in making you laugh, it is also careful that Tulsi Joseph does not have to work heavy with his impeccable comedy timing.
Other characters including Jiku, Aruvi and Jessie have their moments to shine, and they do a wonderful job. If Luke was one of the major pillars of the film, Rajesh Madhavan is still another pillar as a serial killer who has been caught by the fort of ‘Maranamas’. Just the sequence, where the entire lead cast Unite, provokes many cheerful moments. However, towards the end of the film, the story means. And the result? Comedy becomes flat on his face.
As you are hot for the strange people of the village, you will be surprised by the convergence of these characters. The interval sequence where the greatest disclosure of Aruvi’s missing father ends at a high and makes you impatient for the second half of the film. At the end of the film, it seems like a filmmaker, with authors, Shivprasad and Ciju Sunny, perhaps the sub-decents, will have been overboard with especially missing dog sequences.
‘Maamnamas’ tries to end at a high. However, due to one-might-maney subplot, the audience is tired by the time of reaching the climax, which is set in a dumpyard. Even, you get a handful of fun moments. Not only Tulsi and JK, even in that particular sequence, the performance of Anishima connects the rituals that make the film cheerful.
Neeraj Revi’s cinematography adds to the freshness of the film, while Chaman Chacko’s editing may be crispy, especially in the second half. The music of composer JK contributes to the strangeness of the film.
‘Maamnamas’ is still another great attempt in Dark Comedy from Malayalam cinema. While there are shortcomings, performance and bizarre characters make it a pleasant case.
