‘Maharaj’ director Siddharth P Malhotra shared an emotional note on social media expressing his feelings on the film’s OTT release. Sharing the note, he said that he feels the film’s ‘story needs to be told despite all odds.’

In the note that Malhotra shared on Instagram on June 21, he wrote that the release of ‘Maharaj’ on Netflix felt like the ‘arrival of a child for a filmmaker’. Sharing the poster of the film, he wrote, “A labour of love should be celebrated and announced with excitement. But when you choose to tell a story that needs to be told despite all odds, the battle will be tough but hopefully worth the pain and obstacles because we as a team are so proud of the film ‘Maharaj’ that we have made.”

Sidharth added, “Today finally my film as a director after Hichki has released – it’s Aamir Khan sir’s son Junaid’s first film, starring Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead role and two amazing ladies Shalini Pandey and Sharvari in the lead role. Supported by some of the best actors who are masters of their craft. The film is finally live.”

The director praised the film’s team and expressed his gratitude to YRF for giving him ‘wings to fly and tell this great story.’

On Friday, YRF released a statement after the Gujarat High Court lifted the ban on the release of the film. For those who don’t know, the court ruled that the film, based on the events related to the 1862 Maharaja defamation case, is not intended to hurt the sentiments of any community.

Justice Sangita K. Vishen, who had earlier stayed the release of the film on June 13, after watching the movie, allowed Netflix to stream it. ‘Maharaj’ stars Aamir Khan’s son Junaid along with Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharvari Wagh in lead roles.

Originally scheduled to release on June 14, ‘Maharaj’ was put on hold after the High Court restrained Netflix from streaming it. The decision came after a group of traders petitioned the court, arguing that the film had the potential of hurting the religious sensibilities of the Vaishnav community.
