Federal immigration officials on Saturday arrested an alumnus at Columbia University, who was at the forefront of the Palestinian protests on the campus last year, according to his lawyer, citing the order of a state department to cancel his green card.
Mahmood Khalil, a Palestinian refugee in Syria, who graduated from Columbia last December, was detained from his university -owned apartment near the Ivian League campus in New York.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents entered the building and arrested them, his lawyer, Amy Greer told AP. Ms. Greer said that Mr. Khalil’s wife, who is eight months pregnant, was not informed about the cause of her custody.
Mr. Khalil played an important role in the protests of the Pro-Filistini student of the previous spring in Colombia, which was part of the nationwide demonstrations against the Israeli war on Gaza. He was selected as a student conversation in a conversation with university administrators.
