Palestinian students who arrested Ivy League Protests may lose visas

Federal immigration officials on Saturday arrested an alumnus at Columbia University, who was at the forefront of the Palestinian protests on the campus last year, according to his lawyer, citing the order of a state department to cancel his green card.

Mahmood Khalil, a Palestinian refugee in Syria, who graduated from Columbia last December, was detained from his university -owned apartment near the Ivian League campus in New York.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents entered the building and arrested them, his lawyer, Amy Greer told AP. Ms. Greer said that Mr. Khalil’s wife, who is eight months pregnant, was not informed about the cause of her custody.

Mr. Khalil played an important role in the protests of the Pro-Filistini student of the previous spring in Colombia, which was part of the nationwide demonstrations against the Israeli war on Gaza. He was selected as a student conversation in a conversation with university administrators.

Mr. Khalil was also investigated by the newly formed office of the institutional equity of Columbia, which was tasked to review the students criticizing the Israeli. The committee sent disciplinary notice to students for activities like alleged social media posts and participation in unauthorized opposition.

Ms. Greer told AP, “We have not been able to get much information about why she is being detained.” “This is a clear growth. The administration is following through its dangers.”

Ms. Greer said that she spoke to an ICE agent during the arrest, who initially claimed that he was executing an order to cancel Mr. Khalil’s student visa. When it was reported that Mr. Khalil was a permanent resident with a green card, the agent said that it was also being canceled. Since then, he has been transferred to an immigration detention center in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Under the US law, only one immigration court can cancel a green card, not government agencies. However, State Secretary Marco Rubio has intended to cancel the visa of foreign nationals understood to support Hamas or other terrorist groups using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify individuals.

A special focus has been focused on Columbia University Federal Investigation. On Friday, the administration announced that it would cut the university by $ 400 million in grants and contracts, alleging that it would fail to address antismitism in the campus.

Important students of Israel were arrested amidst the rapid crack of the Trump administration. President Donald Trump has vowed to deport foreign students and imprisoned protesters involved in demonstrations against the Israeli war in Gaza.

“They just want to show the Congress and right -wing politicians to show that they are doing anything regardless of the students,” Mr. Khalil said last week. “It is mainly an office to chill prostine speech.”

Protests against Colombia’s infiltration, which began in the previous spring, inspired similar demonstrations throughout the US. Several universities called the local police to break the protests, making hundreds of students arrests.
