A company located in Shedong province of China attracted the attention of government officials, as it threatened to set their single and divorced employees on fire if they remained single by the end of September. According to a report in South China Morning PostShandong Shantian Chemical Group Company Limited issued a notice to its 1,200-odd employees, stressing that they work well and establish families.
The notice required single employees at the age of 28–58, including those divorced people, to marry and settle by the end of September this year. Those who do not do by the end of March need to write a self-criticism letter. If they do not marry by the end of June, the company will “evaluate” one of them. If they are still single by the end of September, they will be fired.
The company said that the move aims to promote the spirit and cultural values of “hard work, kind, loyalty, loyalty, film righteousness and righteousness”.

As disputed, the local Human Resource and Social Security Bureau issued a reform order canceling the company’s notice. According to officials, the notice violated the relevant provisions of the labor law.
