Traffic control radar shows moment when US jet collides with chopper

Showing an air traffic control room screen, a footage on social media platforms is going viral, showing the radar scene of an American airline aircraft colliding with an American military helicopter on Wednesday.

They collided with Washington before crashing in the Potomac River.

Officials say they do not expect any survivors from the accident, who were caught on several cameras. A multi-agency operation is underway to recover 67 bodies from the river.

American Airlines aircraft, which was flying from Wichita, Kansas to the US capital, was carrying athletes and coaches from Elite Figure Skating World, including former Russian world couple champions Avagenia Sheshkova and Wadim Naomov.

The incident took place at around 9:00 pm (ET) (0200 GMT) on Wednesday as the aircraft was making its last view to the Reagan National Airport in Washington.

According to reports, the aircraft pilot has been identified as Sam Lily, a 28 -year -old man with a six -year experience in American Airlines, and who was engaged in getting married.

Another controller said, “I don’t know if you had caught what happened earlier, but the approach in 33 collided. We are going to stop operations for an indefinite future,” said another controller.

“Both the helicopters and the aircraft crashed into the river,” a third air traffic controller could be heard saying.

“It was probably in the middle of the river,” the controller said.

The controller said, “I only saw a fire ball and then it had just gone. I have not seen anything since hitting the river. But it was a CRJ and a helicopter that took a hit,” the controller said.
