Apple may reportedly be planning a major update to its iPhone’s camera app in iOS 19, which would bring it closer to the minimalist design seen in the VisionOS operating system used in the Apple Vision Pro. The reported camera UI redesign, which is expected to be showcased at the upcoming WWDC 2025 in June, promises a more intuitive and immersive experience for iPhone users, focusing on simplicity and ease of use. While the new look is still in development, leaks have started to surface, giving us an idea of what to expect.

According to tipster Jon Prosser, the iOS 19 camera app will get a completely redesigned app. The interface will reportedly feature translucent menus that will allow the viewfinder to take center stage. This means users will have more room to focus on capturing photos or videos, while settings will be minimized or, you could say, features will be neatly hidden away in expandable panels. These changes are expected to reflect the interface of VisionOS.

Additionally, a major goal of iOS 19 is to make the camera interface less cumbersome. The new design will hide some less-used features under expandable toggles. For example, when switching between photo and video modes, the app will display additional settings like depth controls, panorama, and exposure adjustments.

When recording video, resolution and frame rate controls will be displayed at the top of the screen, making it easy to adjust quickly without needing to go into submenus. The camera app will also allow users to select different modes, such as slow motion, time lapse, action, pose, etc. from clear and easy to navigate menus. This overhaul will likely make the Camera app more compatible with other Apple products, including the Vision Pro, and could be a sign of further UI updates in the rest of iOS 19.

Although Apple has not yet confirmed these changes, these early leaks look exciting, especially for users curious to see how the design elements of VisionOS will be adapted for the iPhone. The transition from iOS 18, which did not feature a VisionOS inspired design, could be a huge leap forward in terms of user experience.

iOS 19 is expected to be officially revealed during Apple’s WWDC 2025 in June. With the full release of the update in September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 17 series, a beta version is likely to arrive soon.
