Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer Bombay Velvet was a major disaster at the box office which disappointed people associated with the film. Recently, Amit Trivedi, who composed the soundtrack for the film, recalled dealing with a bad phase after the release of the film. He revealed that he worked hard for four years on the music of the film and did not expect it to be a box office disappointment.

In a new interview with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel, the singer and composer shared details about his emotional journey after the unexpected failure of Bombay Velvet. Amit Trivedi, known for his innovative approach towards music, revealed that he worked hard to introduce jazz in Bollywood through the Anurag Kashyap directorial. But, the film’s poor performance at the box office was unexpected.

He said, “Probably a lot of hard work went into it. It will take 4 years, in that you put so much energy on someone, you put years of energy, some you will expect good results, some but you will not expect disaster.” (I worked on the music for four years, putting in a lot of energy and effort. Naturally, I had high expectations. But what happened was beyond my imagination. The film didn’t just fail; it was a disaster.)

The film came and went without making any impact, which affected the singer. Trivedi admitted that he felt depressed and began to question what he was doing in life and why he was making such music.

“So everything turned out to be a disaster, we didn’t even think, ‘It’s so bad, it didn’t have to be this bad’, okay bad things happen but this much,” Amit recalled. (The whole thing was a dud. The film came and didn’t work. This bad, it doesn’t have to be that bad. Yes, it was shocking to this extent if things didn’t work.)

Since the music landscape in Hindi cinema is dominated by item songs and romantic tracks, Amit felt that he should focus on this. However, later, he overcame his emotions and decided to focus on his approach of experimenting and pushing the existing boundaries.

Despite the failure, the Namo Namo singer is confident in his work. He admitted that he had great potential in creating music and that he liked his work. Also, he enjoys making music and wants to do many other things along with it.

For those unaware, Bombay Velvet was directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap. It was based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables and starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar and others in the lead roles.
