Highlights of Shyam Benegal’s funeral: Famous filmmaker cremated with full state honors
Famous filmmaker Shyam Benegal died on Monday after suffering from chronic kidney disease for several days. The 90-year-old filmmaker died at around 6:30 pm at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai, his daughter Pia Benegal confirmed to India Today.
Shyam Benegal was known for films like Ankur, Mandi, Manthan and others, most of which were released in the mid-70s or 80s and became known as part of parallel cinema in India.
Benegal was cremated with full state honors on 24 December at the Shivaji Park Electric Crematorium in Mumbai.
