Apple announced some notable upgrades during WWDC 2023. The highlight of the event was the new AI system, which Apple calls Apple Intelligence. Now, while the updates are so good that every iPhone user would want to have it on their iPhone, Apple is not making the features available to all iPhone users. At least for now. However, if you are using the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro, then you are lucky. Because these are the iPhone models that will get the Apple Intelligence features later this year.

These models equipped with the A17 Pro chip are currently the only iPhones to support Apple Intelligence features. This suggests that future models, such as the anticipated iPhone 16 Pro, may also include these capabilities. However, for now, the advanced AI features are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro series.

These limitations aren’t limited to iPhones. To access Apple Intelligence on iPads and Macs, you’ll need a device with an M1 chip or newer. Here’s a list of compatible devices:

–iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
–iPad Pro and iPad Air (M1 onwards)
–MacBook Pro (M1 or newer)
–MacBook Air (M1 or newer)
–iMac (M1 or newer)
–Mac mini (M1 or newer)
–Mac Pro (M2 Ultra or newer)
–Mac Studio (M1 Max and newer)

There’s still hope for those with older devices. Apple will provide some AI features, but these will rely on cloud processing, which limits the on-device functionality available on the new chipsets. This means older iPhones, iPads and Macs will get some of the benefits of Apple intelligence, but won’t be able to match the performance of newer models.

Conclusion? If you want to experience the full power of Apple intelligence on your phone, upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max is a must. While older devices will have some AI features, the most advanced capabilities will be reserved for those with the latest hardware, further cementing Apple’s push towards its latest technology.

Apple Intelligence is a personal intelligence system designed for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This innovative system combines the power of generative models with personal context, delivering highly useful and relevant intelligence. Deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence leverages the advanced capabilities of Apple Silicon.

The system is designed to understand and create both language and images, perform actions across different apps, and streamline and speed up daily tasks from a personal context. For example, it can suggest replies in messages, organize photos, or even help draft documents, all tailored to the user’s habits and preferences.

One of the most promising features is Private Cloud Compute. This technology sets a new standard for privacy in AI. It balances computational tasks between on-device processing and more comprehensive, server-based models. These models run on dedicated Apple Silicon servers, ensuring that user privacy is maintained, even when leveraging powerful server-based computation. This dual approach allows Apple Intelligence to deliver strong performance without compromising Apple’s renowned strict privacy standards.
