China willing to invest US$1 billion to set up medical city in Pakistan

According to a media report, a Chinese business delegation met President Asif Ali Zardari here and expressed interest in investing US$1 billion to set up a medical city in Pakistan.

Pakistan has strong bilateral relations with China, which has supported it through several investments and development projects such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, which was described as a “lifeline” for the country’s economy.

During a meeting with Zardari on Thursday, a delegation of Chinese investors outlined their plans to invest US$1 billion to build a medical city in Karachi’s Dhabeji Economic Zone, just outside Pakistan’s largest city and financial hub. Is.

The Medical City will be Pakistan’s first fully integrated pharmaceutical and medical ecosystem.

The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), which is tasked with running the Dhabeji Economic Zone, said in a statement that the pledge by Chinese investors is an example of growing economic ties between the two countries.

The meeting was held after successful talks between the Sindh government and a group of Chinese investors, which was also attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Chinese Consul General.

According to the statement, President Zardari highlighted the importance of promoting deeper economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and China.

The statement said the Chinese delegation showed interest not only in the health sector but also in many other key sectors including agriculture, livestock, energy, transportation and manufacturing.

The President also said that the government is committed to facilitating and supporting Chinese investment in Pakistan.

“We welcome Chinese investors and are committed to providing them all possible assistance,” he said.

The Sindh Chief Minister also told the investors that the government has started Chinese language courses in the province to overcome language barriers and enhance cultural ties between the two countries.
