Audiences are ready for the final season of Stranger Things, but they certainly aren’t ready to welcome back a major character from last season. We are talking about Matthew Modine, who plays the role of Papa in the science fiction and action series brought by Netflix.
For those who have followed the series closely, Papa is also known as Dr. Martin Brenner, the head of Hawking’s Lab.
In a new interview with Vulture, titled Matthew Modine Doesn’t Think His Stranger Things Time Is Up, the Full Metal Jacket star mentioned that the character may not be as dead as he seemed in Stranger Things Season 4 – Part 2.
“I wouldn’t want him to die,” Modine said, just before playing with fans’ minds.
The Married to the Mob actor asked, “How did he (Brenner) escape the Demogorgon?” How did he survive one?”
The last question Modine asked during his interview involved Eleven, as he asked what happened when Millie Bobby Brown’s character uses her powers against Dr. Brenner after blowing three guards into the air. Modine’s character simply “fails him” asking, “You didn’t think it was going to be this easy, did you?”
The Dark Knight Rises actor then also mentioned that Eleven wasn’t able to use her powers against Papa, which could be a sign that there’s “more to Dr. Brenner than meets the eye.” Is?”
According to a number of theories online, fans have always speculated that Dr. Brenner is not only the head of his lab but also a client.
On the other hand, many believe that he was the original mentally gifted activist who was working for the government.
This also explains how Dr. Brenner knew how to push children beyond their limits to harness their mental powers.
If the rumors are true, and Papa returns for the last time, we may see him use his supernatural powers that have not been revealed yet.
Stranger Things season 5 will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2025.
