listen to the story
Uber has introduced the Uber One membership plan in India, marking its latest offering after quietly shutting down the Rider Pass feature. Rider Pass previously allowed users to enjoy discounts on all rides for a month. According to Moneycontrol, the new Uber One plan offers similar features with added flexibility, making it an attractive option for frequent users. Although this feature is new to India, it has already gained popularity in countries like Canada and the US.
What is Uber One?
Uber One is the ride-hailing giant’s latest subscription plan for Indian users, offering features like ride discounts, priority support, and special offers. Users can choose from three plans: Rs 149 for one month, Rs 349 for three months or Rs 1,499 annually. Subscribers also earn Uber Credits (limited to Rs. 150 per trip) to help offset ride costs. However, membership cancellation is only available for annual subscribers, and once cancelled, users lose all credits and benefits.
Features added with Zomato
Uber One comes with three months of Zomato Gold membership, which adds value to users with exclusive dining and delivery benefits. This collaboration reflects Uber’s intention to expand its ecosystem, which will attract not only riders but also food lovers.
why now?
The launch of Uber One comes at a time when India’s ride-hailing market is becoming increasingly competitive. New players like Google-backed Namma Yatri are shaking things up with their subscription plans and driver-centric features. This move by Uber is a strategic effort to maintain its lead in this dynamic sector and attract loyal customers.
Security and feature updates
Apart from Uber One, the company has also introduced many safety-focused features. These include SOS integration for emergencies, helmet selfie feature for pillion riders and female rider preference for female drivers. Uber has also supported the government’s e-Shram portal, which promotes gig worker registration, to align with India’s code on social security.
Globally, Uber One has over 25 million customers, and bringing it to India is a strategic move to strengthen customer loyalty. With thoughtful features, safety enhancements, and an extensive ecosystem, Uber aims to redefine its user experience and fend off competitors in a rapidly changing market.
