Soon after the launch of the iPhone 16, the next iPhone 17 line-up hit the headlines. The main reason for this is the air model. With this series, Apple plans to introduce the thinnest iPhone ever. Previously, the iPhone 17 Air was rumored to exceed the thinness of the iPhone 6. Now, the latest report indicates that it will be so thin that it may not have a SIM tray.

Apple is reportedly planning to eliminate the physical SIM card tray from the iPhones 17 Air in additional countries next year, according to The Information report. Although the exact countries have not been disclosed, the decision could affect a wide range of iPhone models and markets. It added that since all Air model prototypes lack a SIM tray, it is unclear whether the device will be sold in China.

In the US, Apple started this trend with the iPhone 14 series, but China rejected the concept of e-SIM in smartphones. Yet Apple reassures that e-SIMs are far more secure than physical SIMs, as they cannot be stolen or removed from the iPhone. Additionally, at least eight eSIMs can be managed at once on an iPhone, eliminating the need to obtain, carry, and swap physical SIM cards while traveling.

iPhone 17 Air specs leaked

Leaked specifications of the iPhone 17 Air suggest significant upgrades, including a thinner, lighter design with a 6.1-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Powered by the A18 chip, it promises faster processing and better energy efficiency. Analysts predict that this chipset will enhance multitasking capabilities and graphics performance, making it ideal for gaming and demanding applications. Additionally, advances in machine learning capabilities can further improve user experiences, especially in areas such as photography and augmented reality.

The camera system is expected to have a 48-megapixel primary sensor with advanced optical zoom and AI-powered improvements for better performance in low light.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be unveiled in September 2025, giving plenty of time for details to develop and rumors to change before its official launch.
