Amid the heated debate over rising crew costs and stars not getting paid in full, Singham Again actors Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan recently shared their views. Devgan emphasized the lack of unity in Bollywood compared to the South Indian film industry, while he and Kumar also revealed that they do not take payment if a film fails or does not make a profit. Both said that most actors charge based on the expected revenue collection of the project.

At the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan discussed the issue of actors’ salaries in relation to increased film budgets.

Akshay admitted that, in many cases, actors do not earn any money, while Ajay clarified that the fees are determined by the nature of the script, film or project.

Akshay echoed Ajay’s views, pointing out that many actors now opt for profit-sharing agreements instead of upfront fees. He said that under this arrangement, actors earn a share of the profits if the film is successful, but nothing if it fails, thereby ensuring that they share the financial risk with the producers.

The Sarfira actor also highlighted that there are times when there are no profits to share, leading to actors giving up their remuneration altogether, which he attributed to his passion for filmmaking.

During the summit, Devgan criticized the lack of camaraderie within Bollywood and compared it to the unity seen in the South Indian film industries. Answering a question about the differences between the two, Ajay said that Bollywood strives for unity among its members.

Kumar agreed, acknowledging the limited unity of the industry and seeking Ajay’s perspective. Reiterating his stance, Ajay emphasized that although box office openings depend on various factors, he admires how the South industry collectively supports its members, a trait he finds appreciated. Seems there is a shortage in Bollywood.

However, he clarified that he, Akshay, top stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan share a strong and harmonious relationship.

During the session, Ajay Devgan revealed that he is currently working on his next directorial project, which will also star Akshay Kumar.

He noted that although the announcement was planned for a later date, the event provided a suitable platform to share the news. Akshay expressed his excitement saying that it would be a great experience to be directed by Ajay.
